For Sheri and her love of Poppies

This is a picture I took in Victoria in 2005. I'm posting it for Sheri Burhoe - New Brunswick artist whose work is textural, evocative and cheerful all at once. She has a thing about poppies which I understand. They are audacious and brazen and cheeky - everything I wish I could be. We even had a Newfie dog named Poppy when I was growing up because she was born on Rememberance. My poppy pin is still on my jacket. They are on my list of things to plant this summer in my first garden that is *my own*. Fingers crossed that I make some extra money so that I can have one of her Poppy paintings.

A Cupcake for Murray

Murray McBride at the Southhampton building on Hollis Street is one cool cat and one of my favourite people. I try to bring him treats once in a while and I missed bringing him a Valentine last Wednesday. So I baked him cupcakes. Vanilla with almond icing and they were oh so yummy. The mini ones were too full of batter and overflowed like mad so I didn't bother to decorate them. Sometimes fluffy white cake is good enough all by itself.

Sunday Night Baking

I just found my favourite biscuit recipe. Moist and so tender. Thank fate for Harrowsmith cookbooks. They were perfect with corn chowder. I don't know if either of my grandmothers baked , but these definitely tasted like what I imagine their biscuits would taste like if they did.

Hooray for the new Faucet

Our kitchen sink faucet finally bit the dust ( it needing daily tweaking since we moved in to keep it going) so off to the new Home depot with its automated cashes to buy a new faucet. We splurged a wee bit but not too much. Trevor installed it yesterday and I am soooo happy now, I can turn on the cold without wrenching my wrist! Its pretty too. Yay!

Rings - 'Entwine'

I made one for myself as I was playing around with a piece of wire. Trevor saw it and asked me to make him one too. In the process, I wound up with three extra. Making these is a lot of fun because the more I beat up the silver, the better I like them.
Heavily hammered and oxidized sterling rings. $50
