Baby Shower Cupcakes

So this weekend was shaping up to be a busy one. Saturday night we were going to friends for dinner. Sunday I had a baby shower to go to at two and then a bbq at another friends right afterwards. So what's a girl to do? Why bake cupcakes of course!! Lots and lots and lots of them. Minis and full size.
I had also wanted to do some of the little blue birds featured in Martha Stewart Living a couple of years ago. So in preparation, I toasted some flaked coconut. Yuck, it looked terrible in comparsion to the picture so I went out and got a coconut. What a difference! and yummy to munch on too.
I knew I wanted them to be pretty and frilly for the shower. During the week I once again tried my hand at making some gumpaste flowers. Doing them exactly according to the book was giving me grief so I streamlined the process a bit and although they are not as thin as they could be, they turned out so sweet with a sprinkling of silvery dust.

I had the wrong tip for making the beaks, but it was too late to run out to get the right one, so these bluebirds are very quiet in their nest. Check out the coconut. Much nicer than store bought, totally worth it.

A Voila! Blue Bells and blue birds. Chocolate and vanilla. Perfect for a spring baby shower for a wonderful mum-to-be.

There are gorgeous! Prettier than Martha's if you ask me. I'm making baby shower cupcakes for my friend this coming Sunday (4/5) and would love to know a bit more detail as to how you did the flowers. I think I can figure out the birds somehow but did you have a specific flower shape cutter (bluebell?) or shaped them yourself? YOu said you had a book? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Only thing I"ll change (even though I adore these colors!) is the color b/c she having a girl. So I'd either do pink or yellow or even pale green. NOt the same look but it IS a girl. THanks for any help in advance.
