Two totally unrelated photos!

One is a new necklace that is choker length and perfect for summer. The other is a shot I took in a cemetary this afternoon. Is she an angel, or is he Budda? Acid rain works in mysterious ways................

New Jewellery

I finally made a new necklace and bracelet set and a pair of sparkly citrine earrings. I am in a 'use up beads' mode so this one is quite a jumble. The main stone is amazonite, with pearls, new jade, MOP, silver and a wonderful pendant from Shiana the lovely folks who brings us work from the Karen Hilltribe in Thailand ( see links at right) I know this particular one might be hard to sell, but I've already got an order for a single strand version. She is just debating whether she wants the pendant on it or not.
I am thinking I need to start stockpiling jewellery for a May party. Raise some money for the wedding. I will probably include pieces that I've saved for myself. I want a nice wedding more than a drawer full of necklaces and I know I will make more later!

Sure doesn't look like me

The idea was from Pam at the Blue Between. I didn't get the grainy look I originally wanted, but it turned out kinda cool anyway. Trevor did the colour part. I must get him to show me how to do that.

'C' is for Cookie

I have a few people I owe cookies to. Getting them to their destinations is the next big hurdle.

ah, Spring...................................

I just put some cilantro into our breakfast burritos and my hands have the scent on them and it is heavenly. I want a roomspray or candle that smells just like fresh cilantro. I think it is divine. Last week I picked these Forsythia and yesterday they came right out blooming! So cheerful. If we ever get into a home of our own, the first thing I'll do is plant a forsythia. Oh, and maybe a cherry tree. They have great blossoms as well. and a lilac............the list could go on I guess!

getting ready for Easter

I love Easter. I love the colours, chocolate, bunnies and chicks.....even grass. I can start to smell freshly mown grass, despite it being minus twelve. I wanted to make an Easter tag to go on a little gift for a child I don't really know, but I like his parents. This is the bunny I came up with. Now he needs a name. I've drawn him out a few times so that I think I can duplicate him over again. Now what should he be called?

Practice, Practice, Practice

The problem with this practice business is that there is sugar involved! Giving it away solves some of the problem. This mini cake was iced with Italian Meringue Buttercream from Martha Stewart Living. It was pretty good but I have to figure out out how to get rid of the air bubbles so that I can get the sides and top smoother. I did what the recipe said, beat on low speed for five minutes to eliminate air pockets, but it didn't really seem to do the trick. I guess I need to do it longer. The rose was hard as the icing doesn't have the stability for the inside cone. Back to the other style of buttercream I guess. I got The Well-Decorated Cake by Toba Garrett out of the library, I will try some of her recipes.

Cupcakes for my Sweetie

Okay - I figured out why the recipe calls for unsalted butter. Still, they are very good and fun to eat. Now I just have to figure out how to transport them so that I can make a cupcake for my mum.

Day in, Day out

This week at work has been the longest. We are so slow, that I am starting to wonder about the future of my job. The owners have another year on their lease. If it continues like this, how are they going see that continuing is a good thing or even something they can afford? I don't want to be looking for another job in a year. My thinking, coming back from Victoria - get into a place you like, and Stay. You don't make any money in retail but after a couple of yearly raises, things can be better. It never gets better if you keep moving around. So I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed that something gives soon.
Here is a picture of our breakfast cookies I took for the display on the front table. Can't want to buy cookies if you can't see what they look like eh? Speaking of food photography - I can across this blog and it is awesome. I can't wait to try some of her recipes, they are ao unsual

full tummy

I just ate two of my cookies. I ate one. I hate to say it, but it was so good I couldn't not eat another one! Now I am very full, they are big cookies.

saturday - market day......ugh

Well, I took cookies to the market today for the first time, one thing I should always keep in mind is that Haligonians will not even look at something if they have not already seen it many times, preferably being bought by others. God forbid any one parted with the price of a Starbucks coffee, for something 'new' or 'different'.

Needless to say it did not go well. Most people actually averted their eyes.
Bah

starfish

Thanks for the Chatterbox Kristie!

In the midst of all this online chattering I almost burnt a pan of cookies. Which would be disasterous as I haven't any eggs to make more dough. Trev called today, it was so good to hear his voice. They will be in Boston tomorrow morning and will get some leave to go exploring. I have always wanted to go to Boston, don't know why but I hope we can get there soon.
The apartment smells like vanilla and almonds.
